A daybreak disaster developed in Devonshire England early this morning, as the usually docile Dendrobaena venetas (European nightcrawlers) erupted from their subterranean slumber to attack a flock of foraging fowl.

No longer content with being bird breakfast, the gargantuan grubs quickly gained ground against several startled starlings and a bewildered blue jay.

The catastrophically coordinated combat was coincidentally close to the castle co-opted by mad scientist Chelsea Chaos, a well known invertebrate activist.

Authorities are investigating possible links between Dr. Chaos and the avian animosity shown by these super-sized soil soldiers.

Luckily, the tragedy at Tiverton Terrace appears to be an isolated event. No other counties have chronicled creature carnage.

Out of an abundance of caution, a royal regiment has been relegated to regard the Rutland Robin Refuge, until the threat of these garden gladiators can be buried.

Eat carefully, my feathered friends!
